Story
by Marty The Wine Guy

My friend, Lori, and I were on a road trip.  We were on our way back from Clarendon,
Texas, and we were on US Hwy 287, about one hour North West from Lewisville.  It
was late Sunday almost 5:55 p.m. when, we drove up to CR2798.  It was getting dark
so I wanted to get a picture of their sign.  We pulled up in time, before they closed at
6:00 p.m.  As Lori's headlights shined on the building, we saw 5 people, Texas Wine
Makers, sitting on the porch drinking their brew.  They invited us; to come on in.  Les
and Ann began to pour the wine.  Les shared all of his wines with us and then took Lori
and I down to his production area.  What a treat!!!  On the way down, Les shared his
vision of one day hosting Wine and Cuisine events at his vineyards.  As he opened the
doors; so we could go inside the winery, you got the feeling that this winery was
indeed a dream come true for Les, who was a nuclear engineer on a Navy submarine
for many years.  He showed us the grape press, fermentation tanks, and even shared
his new brew Mouvedre.

Les makes a nice Tempranillo and a Ruby Port.  Yum!  Les doesn't make a Chardonnay,
but has experimented with many grape types.  He believes this North Texas area has
just the right climate to grow grapes normally found in South France, Spain and
Northern Italy.  He's not alone.  There are several other wine makers in his area.  He
tells me there are more wine makers there, than in the Texas Hill Country.  These
wine makers are working together to form a North Texas Wine Trail (no not the one in
Grapevine, Texas).  It would be a nice Saturday or Sunday road trip for many wine
lovers.

He was very informative, and shared his many views on wine.  We stayed and visited
with them for about two hours.  It was a great experience and one I'll never forget.
Les, thanks for sharing your wine, vision, and passion.  I'll let the pictures tell the rest
of the story.
